Besides your smart phone, you can now have a smart home. A growing trend shows that consumers are willing to pay for the additional costs of making their homes smarter and more connected. Smart homes can include texting appliances from your phone, voice controlled thermostats and touch screen locks. But research shows that the number one smart home upgrade is security. This includes, fire, carbon monoxide and gas leak alarms to name a few. Another top feature of a smart home is energy efficiency. Smart thermostats and improved heating and cooling systems can greatly reduce utility bills.
So for now, safety, security and energy efficiency are driving the Smart Home trend but it may not be long before we’re all texting our refrigerator.
